WORLD KIDNEY DAY (12-03-2015)

          The nephrology department of Narayana medical college headed by Dr.K.Praveen Kumar celebrated world kidney day on 12th march in the medical college campus.
A total of 350 people attended the meeting and made it a grand success. The audience included patients, kidney donors & recipients, doctors, journalists. The main agenda for the meeting was to increase the awareness about kidney disease in the general population and to prevent increase in the incidence of kidney problems in the community. If also aimed at promoting cadaver kidney transplantation in the society to meet the demand for various organs in the needy population.

The district collector was invited as chief guest for the above programme but she could not made it due to personal reasons. The district medical & health officer Dr.Bharathi Reddy was the guest of honor .The  director Dr.G.Subramanyam , principal Dr.G.V.Nagi Reddy, The CEO Dr.Vijaya Mohan Reddy, professor of Nephrology  Dr.K.Praveen Kumar, professor of Urology Dr.V.Surya prakash, the deputy medical superintendent Dr.Satish Kumar were  the other guests who attended the meeting.

The programme started with prayer song, lighting of the lamp followed by introductory   speech by Dr.K.Praveen Kumar, professor of Nephrology who explained the importance of the kidney in health &disease and also spoke on the importance of organ donation. The other dignitaries on the stage stressed the importance of world kidney day and various preventive measures to be implemented to reduce the prevalence of kidney disease in the society.

The Awareness programme was followed by felicitation of the 1st cadaver donor family of Late Sri Radhakrishna Murthy garu who donated his vital organs on 20th December 2014 after brain death due to a road   traffic accident at Nellore town.

The department of Nephrology & Urology also celebrated the completion of ‘50’ successful kidney transplantations in the last five years at Narayana medical college and hospital. All the kidney donors were presented with mementos and all the recipients were provided health kits and health instruction C.D’S. All the Registered Medical Practitioners were presented with a hand book of kidney diseases published in Telugu language. Finally the programme ended with vote of thanks and national anthem.
