HANDS ON TEMPORAL BONE DISSECTION WORKSHOP

WITH CADAVERIC COCHLEAR IMPLANT DEMONSTRATION AND HANDS ON EXERCISE

Department of ENT, Narayana Medical College, Nellore organized CADAVERIC HANDS ON TEMPORAL BONE WORKSHOP with COCHLEAR IMPLANT DEMONSTRATION SURGERY on WET Temporal Bone on 10th, 11th December 2022 under Aegis of AOI AP, Dr YSR UHS and AP Medical Council with Dr N Janardhan Professor and Head ENT as Chair person and Dr V Krishna Chaitanya Professor ENT as Organising Secretary leading the workshop under the leadership of Dean Dr SP Rao, Medical Superintendent Dr B Hariprasad Reddy and registrar Dr S Vijaya kumar with all support extended from Patrons and management of Institution.

Dr SKE Apparao garu, Professor and Senior Consultant, Susrutha ENT Hospital, Visakhapatnam and Dr Kumar Chowdary garu, Professor, NRI Medical College, Vijayawada and also President AOI AP attended as Guest Faculty of the workshop. A total of 16 delegates attended the workshop for Hands on Dissections and were provided with wet temporal bones for dissection in 16 stations. Total of 56 members participated in the workshop as observers. Workshop was organized in Medical College Premises in Girls Common Room. Accommodation was provided to all the delegates in Mens Hostel, Women’s Hostel in our Institution.

Dr SKE Apparao on Day 1 demonstrated the basic steps in ear surgery for 90 minutes initially. Later the participants performed the procedures under guidance of Dr SKE Apparao and Dr Kumar Chowdary. In house faculty Dr N Janardhan, Dr V Krishna Chaitanya, Dr Rajesh Kumar, Dr Ramesh, Dr Shamsheer and Dr Indraneel assisted the delegates in performing the dissections.

On Day 2 Dr SKE Apparao demonstrated the Surgical Procedure of Cochlear Implant on Cadaver. Also Dr SKE Apparao garu and Dr Kumar Chowdary garu assisted the participants and made them to insert the dummy cochlear implant electrodes in the cadaver which is actually a boon to the participants.

Dr Ravi Ramalingam of KKR ENT Hospitals was considerate to provide us with the required 25 copies of their Temporal Bone Dissection Manual for the workshop. Department of Anatomy, Narayana Medical College and administration and Department of Anatomy of ACSR GMC were generous to supply us with the required temporal bones for the workshop. Special thanks to Vaansari Marketing Services and Serwel Associates Chennai have provided us the required equipment and logistics for the workshop. Delicious food along with dinner was provided by Narayana Nursing College and Dinner was provided to all delegates in Hotel Minerva Grand, Nellore. Chairs and few logistics were provided from Narayana General Hospital and Narayana Dental College. Sincere thanks to the technical staff and IT Staff Narayana Medical College for their support extended in organizing the workshop.
