To warmly welcome and professionally induct the newly admitted first-year postgraduate students, Narayana Medical College organized a comprehensive two-day orientation programme on June 5th and 6th, 2025. The programme aimed to familiarize the fresh batch with the institutional ethos, academic expectations, and essential operational protocols, while laying a strong foundation in biomedical research.

Day 1: Institutional Induction and Professional Etiquette

The first day commenced with registration and a formal inaugural ceremony, followed by a series of thematic sessions covering various aspects of institutional functioning and clinical responsibility.

  • Biju Ravindran, introduced the students to the legacy and infrastructure of Narayana Medical Institutions, outlining the historical evolution, vision, mission, and future roadmap.
  • P. Sreenivasulu Reddy, Principal, addressed critical aspects of infection control and biomedical waste management, emphasizing hospital safety, hygiene, and biohazard protocols.
  • V. Krishna Chaitanya detailed the academic framework including attendance, thesis submission, departmental academic activities, and training protocols such as GCP, DRP, and emergency certifications.
  • A powerful session on Attitudes, Ethics, and Communication was delivered by V. Mahidhar Reddy, focusing on patient-doctor relationships, ethical dilemmas, and professionalism in clinical practice.
  • Post-lunch, S. GopalKrishna and Dr.Harshitha guided students through emergency handling and stress management, preparing them for crisis situations and mental health resilience respectively.
  • Bala Maddileti sensitized the students to medico-legal responsibilities, while Dr. Dorasanamma and Mr. Nagi Reddy provided briefings on hostel regulations and campus security, ensuring a smooth residential and academic experience.

Day 2: Biomedical Research Methodology

The second day focused on developing foundational skills in research methodology, crucial for academic and clinical excellence in postgraduate training.

  • P. Rama Mohan introduced the students to formulating research questions, conducting literature reviews, and framing hypotheses using SMART objectives.
  • C. Jyothi and Dr. C. Kumar covered study designs, sampling methods, and data collection tools, with emphasis on methodological rigour and bias minimization.
  • N. Ram Kumar guided the students through data management and analysis, including coding, data entry, and understanding statistical concepts.
  • B. Madhavulu elaborated on ethics in research and clinical trials, including informed consent and ICMR guidelines.
  • The final sessions focused on protocol writing, publication ethics, and thesis drafting, delivered by P. Rama Mohan and Dr. C. Kumar, equipping students with the necessary skills for academic writing and compliance with university regulations.

The programme concluded with a valedictory session, marking the successful initiation of the postgraduate journey for the new batch.

Conclusion:
 This orientation programme provided an integrated introduction to the academic, clinical, administrative, and research responsibilities expected from postgraduate residents. Through interactions with senior faculty and experts, students gained valuable insights into institutional expectations and professional development, ensuring a confident and competent start to their postgraduate education.
