CME - Dept. of General Surgery - Proctology Update

On the 7th of October, 2023, a highly enlightening and engaging Continuing Medical Education (CME) program titled ‘Proctology Update’ unfolded, bringing together a gathering of esteemed professionals in the surgical field along with postgraduate students. This remarkable program was meticulously organized by the Department of General Surgery at Narayana Medical College, Nellore, and took place at the Louis Pasteur Learning Centre.

The schedule for the day was thoughtfully crafted to provide an exceptional platform for gaining insights into various surgical techniques related to anal surgeries and understanding the best practices that a surgeon should adopt for ensuring a comfortable anal surgery.

The day commenced promptly at 8:30 AM with the registration process, followed by a grand inauguration featuring speeches by the Principal and the Medical Superintendent. Subsequently, the Head of the Department of General Surgery delivered a warm welcome address at 9 AM, marking the official commencement of the event and setting the tone for what promised to be a day filled with profound insights and fruitful discourse.

The morning sessions were packed with video demonstrations of various anal surgical procedures by accomplished speakers. These surgical techniques were explained in a detailed and comprehensive manner, providing valuable knowledge to the attendees. The speakers, including Dr. G. Bharath, Dr. G. Rangaswamy, Dr. B. Praneeth, Dr. P. Amarnath Reddy, Dr. N. Venkata Harish, Dr. A. Murali, Dr. K. Suhas Chaitanya, and Dr. P. Chaitanya Kumar Reddy, covered topics such as Surgical Anatomy of the Anal Canal, Lateral Sphincterotomy, Haemorrhoidectomy, Laser Haemorrhoidectomy, Stapler Haemorrhoidectomy, Fistulotomy & Fistulectomy, LIFT procedure, and VAFT procedure, respectively. A much-needed tea break at 11:30 AM provided participants with an opportunity to refresh and network.

The post-break session began with the highly anticipated and exhilarating Guest Lecture by Dr. P.V. Rama Subba Reddy on ‘Towards a Comfortable Anal Surgery.’ Dr. V. Mahidhar Reddy, the Organizing Chairman and a student of Dr. P.V. Rama Subba Reddy, introduced the distinguished speaker with pride and honor, highlighting the speaker’s significant contributions to SV Medical College and SVRRGGH. Dr. P.V. Rama Subba Reddy delivered an outstanding lecture that proved to be an eye-opener for surgeons dealing with anal surgeries. With all his experience in the field, Dr. P.V. Rama Subba Reddy’s lecture was filled with insightful anecdotes and facts, lasting for 1 hour and 40 minutes and featuring active audience participation. The session concluded with a felicitation of Dr. P.V. Rama Subba Reddy by the faculty of the Department of General Surgery, and the morning session speakers were presented with mementoes.

Dr. N. Venkata Harish, the Organizing Secretary, expressed gratitude and delivered a vote of thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the event. The program concluded on a highly successful note.
