Zonal CME - 2025 Complex Trauma of Upper Limb – Dept. of Orthopedics

The Zonal CME Program held on 08.06.2025 at Narayana Medical College, Nellore was organized for Post Graduate students from ZONE – IV under the auspices of Dr.NTR University of Health Sciences. The academic event was held and hosted by the department of Orthopaedics and focused on the latest trends and evidence based approach to the management of “COMPLEX TRAUMA OF UPPER LIMBS”.

The CME brought together seasoned faculty members and practitioners who delivered detailed lecture on a variety of fracture patterns, surgical controversies and management strategies.

In addition to the informational sessions, the programs featured interactive segments and a special “Meet the Masters” passed to facilitate direct mentorship and clarification of clinical dilemmas faced by post graduates in Orthopedics practice.

The primary learning objectives/goals of the CME were:

  1. To develop a structured understanding of the management of “ROTATORY CUFF INJURIES”.
  2. To examine current trends in the management of “PROXIMAL HUMRUS FRACTURES” with a focus on fixation versus replacement.
  3. To understand approaches to “COMPLEX DISTAL RADIUS AND INTERCONDYLAR FRACTURES”.
  4. To assess surgical decision making in “RADIAL HEAD FRACTURES”: Fixation versus Replacement.
  5. To evaluate internal fixation techniques in “SHAFT OF HUMERUS FRACTURES”: Nailing versus Plating.
  6. To discuss hand injury management from a multi disciplinary perspective.
  7. An interactive session with senior orthopedic surgeon for guidance on clinical decision making and carrier development and answered complex case queries.

 All the objectives mentioned were clearly addressed during the session.

Further steps to improve the sessions and further learning organizing practical workshops in Arthroscopy fracture fixation and implementation case based auditing for Upper limb trauma and improve interdisciplinary communication for complex injuries.

In conclusion, the CME was highly beneficial offering clinically applicable knowledge and sharpening decision making in complex fracture of upper limb.
