POISONING: POISON INFORMATION CENTRE

Narayana Medical College, outreach program on “POISONING: POISON INFORMATION CENTRE” has been established today i.e., 18.02.2017 between 2.00-4.00 P.M in the Learning Hall of medical education Department. Dr.G.Veera Nagi Reddy, Principal, Dr.Sreeram Satish, In-charge Medical superintendent, H.O.D of Emergency Medicine Dr.S.Satish were took the active initiation to start this centre. There are so many poisons for which so many individuals are being exposed but most of the times the chemical present in that poisonous preparation is not known to the treating personnel in many of the situations.

Principal delivered the key note address on importance of poisoning information centre at Narayana Medical College and General Hospital. HOD from department of Emergency Medicine focused on the importance and necessity of poison information centre. Poisoning with house hold chemicals like acetone (Nail polish remover), Pyrithrin (All-out), Diphenylene amine poisoning (Hair dye) is very common now-a-days and most of the times clinicians will be in confusions what could be the antidote for a particular chemical agent. So it is mandatory to have a clear information in this regard.

To fill the gap in getting the information Mr.Amarnath from Vans Scientific Information was invited to give the training on usage of database on poison and poisoning. Mr.Amarnath, is serving as Assistant Vice President for sales and marketing in vans Scientific information representative of Micromedex in India developed a evidence based drug information, drug interactions, poison management information and disease management solutions. Program enlighten about how to navigate through Micromedex data base and to show case the features of Micromedex. Username and password were given to end-users (Clinicians).
34 faculty members from various clinical and non-clinical departments like General Medicine, Emergency department, Ophthalmology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology were actively participated and interacted.

Program was closed successfully by 3.20 P.M with vote of thanks by Dr.P.Sreenivasulu Reddy, Co-coordinator, Medical Education Department, Narayana Medical College.
