“OPTIMAL INFANT & YOUNG CHILDREN FEEDING PRACTICES: BETTER CHILD HEALTH”

As per the orders of the Principal, the National Nutrition Week was celebrated on 7th September 2017 at Gray’s lecture gallery from 2.30PM to 4.00PM.

An academic programme was organized on 7th Sept, 2017, from 2.30 PM to 4 PM at the lecture gallery Grey. About 600 medical and nursing students, and dieticians attended the programme.
Dr. C. Kumar, invited the dignitaries on to the dias. After prayer by students, the event was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
Dr. C. Kumar gave a brief introduction about the theme of the Week. Dr. G.V. Nagi Reddy out lined the importance of the nutrition problems, and encouraged the students to study and learn about the nutritional problems prevailing in the country.
Dr. G. Subrahmanyam, Director, has published about 50 scientific papers in various journals. All these publications were made into a book. This book was formally inaugurated by Dr. G. V. Nagi Reddy, Dr. Vijaya Kumar and Dr. Vijaya Mohan Reddy.
The scientific programme on Nutrition was started by Dr. Subrahmanyam. He discussed the role of micronutrients in the health and well being of the people in detail. He stressed the importance of nutrients like, magnecium, selenium, zinc, molybdenum etc.
Dr. C. Jyothi discussed about the nutritional problems prevalent in our country, like iron deficiency anaemia, iodine deficiency disorders, Low Birth Weight, Under Nutrition among children and women, Xerophthalmia etc, in great detail. She focused the attention of the audience on various Nutritional Programmes of the country like, ICDS, Anaemia Prophylaxis, Fortification of salt by Iodine, Mid-Day Meal Programme and other such important Nutrition Intervention Programmes.
Dr. Anusha, postgraduate of Paediatrics discussed about the common paediatric problems seen in the hospital. She discussed about breast feeding, infant feeding, complementary feeding, feeding practices of children etc.
Dr. S. Bhaskar proposed vote of thanks. He thanked all the dignitaries for making it convenient to attend the programme. He thanked all students and faculty for attending the programme. He further thanked all staff who made arrangements for inauguration, audio systems etc.
The programme came to end with rendering of National Anthem.
